Renew Kids: Sunday, July 9th, 2017 (Learning Together)

In our desire to equip parents as they “train their children up in the way they should go,” we have created a blog series to communicate the lessons our kids will be learning each Sunday, family verses to memorize together, and resources to help you as the parent to disciple your children.

The word “disciple” means to intentionally impact the life of someone in the direction of being more like Jesus.

Disciples follow Jesus and help others follow Him too.

Every week faithful servants enter into this discipleship process with the children in Renew Kids. Three are three classes this Sunday: Nursery (ages birth-3), Primary (ages 3-6), and Challenge (ages 6-9).

This Week’s Story Catechism (Rebellion: The Consequence)

This week we continue our Summer adventure in the Story Catechism. Take it with you!

The ninth chapter of the Story Catechism is about the Consequence:

Because Adam and Eve sinned, everything changed.
Adam and Eve forgot.
God is holy and always does what is good, right, and perfect.
Because God is holy, he does not allow sin to be in his presence.
So God punished Adam and Eve by removing them from the garden (His presence).

Truth & Light for the Downcast Soul (Psalms 42-43)

7/2/17. Week 4 in Summer Psalms. Truth & Light for the Downcast Soul (Psalms 42-43).

When we are downcast we always respond poorly, which is why we need to grasp why we’re downcast, how to speak truth and light to our souls, and what it means to put one’s hope in God when life looks dim and bleak.

The writer of this pair of Psalms helps us understand the yearnings and opportunities of what takes place when our souls are downcast.

Facing God & Future-proofing Life (Psalm 27)

6/25/17. Week 3 in Summer Psalms. Facing God & Future-proofing Life (Psalm 27).

There are a few strategies people employ to deal with life: fight, be cynical, give up. David offers us a better way, living before the face of God. Did you know that what you seek in every interaction and situation is really found best, only, and eternally in the face of God?

Strengthened to Face Anything & Everything (Psalm 18)

6/18/17. Week 2 in Summer Psalms. Strengthened to Face Anything & Everything (Psalm 18).

Psalm 18 begins with a prayer that reveals the secret to David’s strength:
“I love You, O Lord, my strength.”
It’s one thing to knuckle down in adversity, and endure. That’s commendable. It’s another and deeper reality to to rise above a hardship with a superior love, a passion in God, with God, and for God, that allows a person to face anything, and everything.

This Week’s Story Catechism (Creation: The Garden of Eden)
The second chapter of the Story Catechism is about the Garden of Eden:

At the beginning of the story there is a garden.
The garden is called Eden.
Eden was a place where everything was in its right and proper place.
And God said it is good.
It was good because God is good and he was there.

His Love, Deep & Wide (Psalm 103: Song of Steadfast Love)

8/28/16. Week 8 of Summer Psalms series “Songs of Strength” and the eighth week of our Summer journey with the Story Catechism (chapter twelve: RETURN). As far is the east is from the west, that’s how far the Father has removed our transgressions from us.

Renew Kids: Sunday, August 28th, 2016 (Learning Together)

Sunday, August 28th: This week we focus on Recreation (re-creation) with chapter 20 in the STORY Catechism: RETURN

The twentieth chapter of the Story Catechism is focused on how God is re-establishing and renewing what is right and good through Jesus.

Through Jesus, God is reestablishing peace.
Through Jesus, God is bringing freedom.
Through Jesus, God is renewing His creation.
Through Jesus, God is putting everything back in its right and proper place.
And through Jesus, once again it is very good.

Update & Stories with Next Generation Ministries (Paul Hunter)

8/21/16. Week 7 of Summer Psalms series “Songs of Strength” and the ninth week of our Summer journey with the Story Catechism (chapter twelve: MULTIPLY). We heard an update from Paul Hunter, director of Next Generation Ministries, on their continuing work in Uganda. The stories and truths he shared with us help us grasp the significance and opportunities of partnering with them as “a river of relationships connecting resources to needs.”

Renew Kids: Sunday, August 21st, 2016 (Learning Together)

Sunday, July 24th: This week we will be focusing on chapter 8 in the STORY Catechism: THE DESPERATION

The tenth chapter of the Story Catechism is focused on the desperation Adam and Eve felt to be close to their Father again:

Adam and Eve were now sinners.
As hard as they tried, Adam and Eve could not fix what was broken.
They never stopped needing God.
And God could never stop loving them.
But the story doesn’t end there.
