Revival: Build Your Kingdom Here (Acts 2:37-47)

Sunday night we began a new adventure looking at Revival. What is revival? How do we seek it? What if God brought revival to our cities, our nation, and healed this land? How would we know it was true and lasting change, more and better than mere hype?

We began and ended the worship gathering by singing together, “Build Your Kingdom Here,” a newer song by the Rend Collective Experiment (see lyrics and video below).

The Scripture was Acts 1-2, and we read Acts 2:37-47 to focus on the elements of what happens when people are convicted of sin and turn to Jesus with their whole hearts. (See pastor’s notes on the various views on revival, and what we’re seeking.)

Scripture: Acts 2:37-47

37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 Andthey were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those whowere being saved.

Q6: How can we glorify God?

The official video release of “Come, Set Your Rule: Build Your Kingdom Here” from the album “Homemade Worship by Handmade People” by the Rend Collective Experiment:

Sing along:

Come, set Your rule and reign
In our hearts again
Increase in us we pray
Unveil why we’re made

Come set our hearts ablaze with hope
Like wildfire in our very souls
Holy Spirit come invade us now
We are Your Church
We need Your power
In us

We seek Your kingdom first
We hunger and we thirst
Refuse to waste our lives
For You’re our joy and prize

To see the captive hearts released
The hurt; the sick; the poor at peace
We lay down our lives for Heaven’s cause
We are Your church
We pray revive
This Earth

Build Your kingdom here
Let the darkness fear
Show Your mighty hand
Heal our streets and land
Set Your church on fire
Win this nation back
Change the atmosphere
Build Your kingdom here
We pray

Unleash Your kingdom’s power
Reaching the near and far
No force of hell can stop
Your beauty changing hearts
You made us for much more than this
Awake the kingdom seed in us
Fill us with the strength and love of Christ
We are Your church
We are the hope
On Earth
