In our desire to equip parents as they “train their children up in the way they should go,” we have created a blog series to communicate the lessons our kids will be learning each Sunday, family verses to memorize together, and resources to help you as the parent to disciple your children.

Renew Kids

The word “disciple” means to intentionally impact the life of someone in the direction of being more like Jesus.

Disciples follow Jesus and help others follow Him too.

Every week faithful servants enter into this discipleship process with the children in Renew Kids. There are three classes every Sunday: Nursery (ages 0-2), Primary (ages 3-6), and Challenge (ages 6-10).

This week’s Family Verse

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”  —John 15:13

"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." —John 15:13

Primary Class

Our curriculum for the Primary class comes from The Gospel Project for Kids and systematically teaches the stories of the Bible starting in Genesis and finishing in Revelation. We are currently studying the Old Testament going from Creation through the life of Joseph.

Unit Focus: God the Covenant Maker

God entered a covenant relationship with Abraham and all of his descendants to continue His plan of redemption. It is through this family, the nation of Israel, that God would bless the entire world by bringing forth the Messiah, Jesus.

Unit Key Passage

“For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” —Romans 4:3

Bible Passages: Genesis 25:19-26; 26:1-6; 28:10-22

Main Point: God reminded Abraham’s family about His promises.

Big Picture Question: What did God promise? God promised to bless His people.

Discussion Questions

1. Can we count Abraham’s descendants? (No, there are too many to count!)

2. Why did God tell Isaac not to move his tents and family? (the land would be his family’s one day)

3. What did Jacob see reaching from earth to heaven in his dream? (a stairway)

4. What did Jacob set up to remember what God had promised him? (a stone)

Challenge Class

The Challenge Class is taking a break from studying the Gospel of Mark. They will be taking part in the EASTER Catechism that will engage the kids into the greatest story ever lived and told. This narrative will help connect the dots for the kids about this amazing life changing event. Catechism (kat-i-kiz-uhm) is defined as a summary of the principles of Christian religion in the form of questions and answers, used for the instruction of Christians. Simply put, it’s the cadence of questions and answers for the purpose of creating understanding.

The EASTER Catechism offers a simple rhythm designed to help move our class through the EASTER catechism; read, memorize, chat, and pray.

Every week as they gather for Challenge Class, they will read scripture, memorize catechism, chat about the material, and end with a prayer written specially for each section.

Gospel for Asia Project

GFA goat

In the Challenge Class they are working on earning a pair of goats for a family through Gospel for Asia. How do they earn this? Every week the kids in the Challenge Class have the opportunity to earn marbles to fill up a jar in order to earn a pair of goats for the Gospel for Asia Ministry. How do they earn marbles?

The kids in Challenge Class can earn marbles in these ways:

  1. Memorize the memory verse for their Challenge Class
  2. Study the Bible at home
  3. Draw a picture of something they learned in the bible
  4. Learn a new story from the Bible

Challenge Study

This week in Challenge they will continue the EASTER Catechism with THE CROSS.

Scripture Reading:

Luke 23:26-43, 23:44-49; Hebrews 10:14-24; Romans 3:24-25; 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, 5:21; John 15:13; Romans 5:6-11

Memorize:

After being condemned to death and forced to suffer a Roman: crucifixion
Jesus carried His own cross to the hill called Golgotha and was placed between two: criminals
Jesus freely laid His life down to pay the: penalty of sin
Jesus was the perfect lamb that needed to be: sacrificed
With outstretched arms, and with His last breath, He said: it is finished
Discussion Questions:
1. What did we learn about God? (He extravagantly loves. If you were a daddy, could you imagine sending your son to die for someone else?)
2. What is a Roman crucifixion? (It is a brutal way of punishing and humiliating criminals to the point of death.)
3. What is the penalty of sin? Does everybody have sin? (Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death and deserves God’s wrath. Yes, everyone sins. Romans 3:23 tell us all have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God.)
4. How did Jesus’ sacrifice pay the penalty of our sin? (Jesus took our place as a substitute by receiving God’s wrath so that all those who put their trust in Him would not have to die.)
5. Where / how do we see the gospel? (“It is finished” is the proclamation of the gospel; the payment of sin was made, and there is nothing left to do except trust Jesus.)
Prayer:
God, You sent Your son Jesus for us, to be with us, as a sacrifice so we
could be with You. He is the perfect, unblemished, and pure lamb. You
took my place and my sin on that cross and died for me even though I
didn’t deserve it. Your life and death accomplished everything that was
necessary for us to live. Your grace overwhelms me and Your love holds
everything together. Amen.
The Challenge Class will be starting to learn the books of the Old Testament this week. This is the song they will be singing in class:
