In our desire to equip parents as they “train their children up in the way they should go,” we have created a blog series to communicate the lessons our kids will be learning each Sunday, family verse to memorize together, and resources to help you as the parent to disciple your children.
The word “disciple” means to intentionally impact the life of someone in the direction of being more like Jesus.
Disciples follow Jesus and help others follow Him too.
Every week faithful servants enter into this discipleship process with the children in Renew Kids. There are three classes every Sunday: Nursery (ages birth to 2 years), Primary (ages 3-6), and Challenge (ages 6-10).
This week’s Family Verse
“And they were astonished beyond measure, saying “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” —Mark 7:37
Our curriculum for the Primary class comes from The Gospel Project for Kids and systematically teaches the stories of the Bible starting in Genesis and finishing in Revelation. We are currently studying the Old Testament going from Creation through the life of Joseph.
Unit Key Passage
“yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord , Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.” —1 Corinthians 8:6
Bible Passage: Genesis 11:1-9
Main Point: God created people to give him glory
Big Picture Question: Why did God create the world? God created the world for His glory.
- What did God tell people to do after the flood? (spread out and fill up the earth)
- What did the people decide to build so everyone would think they were great? (a tall tower)
- Why did God mix up the people’s words (stop them from building the city and doing more bad things)
- In what city was the unfinished tower? (Babel)
This week in Challenge they will continue to study the book of Mark and the Fruits of the Spirit. In the Challenge class we focus on learning to study the bible and learn what God is trying to tell us through scripture. The Fruit of the Spirit they will be focusing on this week is kindness and especially on what the bible tells us about being kind.
This is the song we are learning in class:
The scripture we will be studying Mark 7:24-37 and it is focused on Jesus’ time on earth as a man and healing many and forgiving sins.
And they were astonished beyond measure, saying “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” —Mark 7:37
- Why was the Gentile woman’s daughter healed? (her persevering faith)
- Did the people obey Jesus when He told them to tell no one about being healed? (no, they told many)
- What do the scriptures about Jesus healing people teach us about our faith? (open ended)
Scripture Verse for the Parents
“All scripture is breathed out by God an profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” —2 Timothy 3:16
Gospel for Asia Project
The Kids in Challenge Class reached their goal last week to fill a jar with marbles to earn a pair of chickens for a family through Gospel for Asia!
GFA: For a family in Asia a rooster and hen are not pets. They are the source of up to 40 dozen eggs a year! When the pair produces chicks, a flock develops that will provide nourishment and income for years.
Now they are working on earning a pair of goats!
How do they earn this? Every week the kids in the Challenge Class have the opportunity to earn marbles to fill up a jar in order to earn their pair of goats for the Gospel for Asia Ministry. How do they earn marbles?
The kids in Challenge Class can earn marbles in these ways:
- Memorize their Challenge Class memory verse
- Study the bible at home
- Draw a picture of something they learned in the bible
- Learn a new story from the bible
