The Arrival of Advent

Renew Family,

The Advent season is here! In light of this, let us consider how we shall celebrate as a church. Let this season be a time focused on the anticipation and hope that we all can have in Christ, first in remembering His birth, and then looking forward to His return.

What is Advent and why do we celebrate it as the Renew family?

The Spiritual One-Two Punch

Faith is key.

But it’s only half the story. Faith is half of the spiritual one-two punch that deals a death blow to the devil. Faith is important, but it wasn’t until last week, re-reading about Abraham, that I noticed the other half, the part that’s often over-looked and hardly ever touted for its importance.

Build the Altar this Snow Day

Our Sunday worship gathering is canceled due to inclement weather; while the snowy roads are passable for some, the likely onset of freezing rain, atop of existing snow, and coupled with a winter storm advisory asking people locally to not travel unnecessarily, means we are wise to not gather as a whole church family today.

While we won’t be gathering at 813 7th Street together this morning, to serve one another and worship the risen Christ, we do get to do well in our homes this snow day.

Build the Altar This Snow Day

Build the Altar in 2017 (resources for worshiping Christ in His Word)

All year long the Renew Family can join together an build an altar to God in our lives. We’re invited to the adventure of knowing God and all of His covenant promises found in the whole Bible. From Genesis to Revelation we will see the God of Promise, how He has made exceedingly great promises and the phenomenal lengths He has gone to keep those promises. Will you follow along by daily seeking God first? Follow a plan for helpful guidance.

“We Were Once As You Are” (Duty, Pleasure & Beauty)

On Sunday July 3rd we considered the themes of Duty and Dependence, whereby the beauty of God overwhelms our hearts and what used to be a mere duty receives a whole new energy to be joyfully performed, even with pleasure!

The following Sunday we sang “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” (original lyrics by Sir Robert Robinson) with added closing verses borrowed from one John Newton’s hymns. The fully hymn “We Were Once As You Are” is listed below, with the chosen verses emphasized. . .

Lead Us Back to You

The past few weeks, we’ve sung this song in our local church gathering. It is a song of simple repentance. It undoes me. It brings us all back to the glory of the gospel, our desperate need for His grace. It is a song for us all. I like how our guys sing it best, probably because I love them and they don’t have fancy voices. *smile* But you can listen to it here, and sing along as the lyrics go like this…
