On Sunday July 3rd we considered the themes of Duty and Dependence, whereby the beauty of God overwhelms our hearts and what used to be a mere duty receives a whole new energy to be joyfully performed, even with pleasure!
The following Sunday we sang “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” (original lyrics by Sir Robert Robinson) with added closing verses borrowed from one John Newton’s hymns. The fully hymn “We Were Once As You Are” is listed below, with the chosen verses emphasized. . .

Amidst the news cycle of a bombing in Brussels, a genuine tragedy, it’s easy to forget that today is World Water Day. While we can turn on any tap and fill a cup to sip while reading the day’s news, each and every day the thirst for water is real for 663 million people. That’s a daily tragedy, and it can be avoided! So today, and every March 22nd is a reminder for us to remember communities of faithful, resourceful people who rely on our support for the most basic of needs: CLEAN WATER!
Weather Updates: With #SNOWPDX upon us, and weather-related concerns, we recognize communication will be helpful before Sunday morning arrives. We have three simple axioms connected to making decisions on gatherings in the event of extreme weather, and a few ways to communicate with all. These are SAFETY, WISDOM & SHARING. Communicating well helps us not invest needless time thinking solely about ourselves and our plans.
Looking outside and noticing a bit of snow! Have you been able to enjoy it as much as endure it? #RenewReCreate
As much fun as it can be, often the weather leads us to be fun, fearful or foolish.
Since a few have asked, I’ll revisit a weather policy drafted on the fly a couple winters ago, reworded for a new season. As we live in a mostly under-prepared locale, let’s be SAFE, WISE, and SHARE …
All year long the Renew Family will be following the covenant promises of God found in the whole Bible. From Genesis to Revelation we will see the God of Promise, how He has made exceedingly great promises and the phenomenal lengths He has gone to keep those promises. Will you follow along by daily seeking God first? Follow a plan for helpful guidance.
Now for the plans …
About every minute a child under age five dies as a result of diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene. Let’s change that. Join the Renew family & others in the neighborhood (& around the globe) as we run, walk or shuffle 6K for Water. Saturday, March 19th.
Will you join us for Advent? (And why call it Advent and not just Christmas-time or “Happy Holidays?”)
When you give your spouse your time and attention, it says to them YOU ARE WORTH KNOWING.
Yesterday we mentioned a significant resource, a Weekend to Remember, which is coming to Portland (Nov. 20-22). Go for it!
