Renew Family Devotions: Second Week of August

What a blessing it was to meet as a whole church family this Sunday! Can’t wait to be outside worshiping together soon in the glorious weather we have been having. What a gift.

Let’s continue that worship together at home this week with our children. To help you out with that I wrote a short devotional to share with your children. Deuteronomy 6:5-7 says,

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise”.

Let’s use this time at home to train our children in the Word of God.

Here’s a plan to do that in our homes this week!

Read Numbers 21:4-9 & John 3:14-15

You can also read “Story 16: The Snake on a Stick” in The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible (pages 90-95) . If you don’t have The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible we are happy to help get one into your hands and your home.

Devotional

Remember last week when the people were to scared to obey God and enter the land He had promised? They wanted to go back to Egypt AGAIN! But God didn’t let them. And he didn’t let them go into the promised land either. They just wandered around the desert for forty more years.

Do you think they learned their lesson? You would think so but no, the people kept complaining. God sent snakes into their camp. The snakes bit the people of Israel and many people died. The Israelites saw they were sinning and asked Moses to pray to God to take the snakes away. God didn’t take the snakes away but He told Moses to do something that might seem a little strange.

God told Moses to make a snake out of bronze and put it on a stick. When someone got bit by a snake all they had to do was look at the bronze snake and they wouldn’t die! Not only would they not die but they would be healed! That is pretty amazing!

Many, many years later God sent His son Jesus to earth to save his people. Jesus was nailed to a cross and died for our sins. Everyone who trusts in Jesus will be saved and will live with God forever.

Family Verse

Take some time as a family to learn the question from the New City Catechism. You can also sing scripture with Seeds Family Worship. We will be going through the album “I Am With You”.

New City Catechism

Question 12

What does God require in the ninth and tenth commandments?

Kids response: Ninth, that we do not lie or deceive. Tenth, that we are content, not envying anyone.

Full response: Ninth, that we do not lie or deceive, but speak the truth in love. Tenth, that we are content, not envying anyone or resenting what God has given them or us.

James 2:8

If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.

Seeds of Worship: I Am With You (new album, volume 13).

tenth verse/song: Romans 3:23 & 6:23 » All Have Sinned

For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reflect and Pray

Here are some ideas to reflect on what you learned today:

Think about it: Do you ever complain about anything? It can be really hard not to complain sometimes. We complain about food we don’t like or having to go somewhere that isn’t fun. Sometimes we even complain about God. Complaining is a sin but thankfully God sent Jesus to die for our sins so we don’t have to. Ask God to forgive you for when you have complained. Ask Him to help you not complain but to be content with your life.

When you are have finished your discussion make sure you take time to pray. Thank God that He sent His son Jesus to die for your sins so you don’t have to. Ask God to help you not to complain nut to be content.

Renew in Homes this Sunday

This Sunday as we continue gathering in our homes as smaller units of our church, I wanted to offer a few resources to you. These are age-appropriate kids bulletins that correlate with the teaching for the week: 1st Thessalonians 5:1-11.

Renew in Homes: Worshiping with Littles

Parents,

We are in a season of worship that we never thought we would see. It is so strange to not go to the Revival Building every Sunday and see you and all of the kids. When we started family service a while back I had no idea we would all be doing family service every week in our homes. Sometimes that can be challenging and downright exhausting. It can feel easier to do it at a different time or simplify it for the kids. I am not saying any of those options are wrong but I will say I have seen amazing fruit in the families that have been “all in” on Sundays as a family. Now we will be gathering in small groups in our home. For some of you this can cause added anxiety. Whether you are going into another family’s home or welcoming others into yours. So I wanted to give you some practical steps, some encouragement and a challenge as you consider this ongoing season, worshipping together in our homes as small units of our church family.
