Where there is Darkness, He is the Light (Psalm 67)

During Renew Family Camp we paused on Sunday morning to read, sing, pray, and rejoice in the Gospel of Christ.

Psalm 67 reminds us that God is the Light of the world, even in the darkness that surrounds.

Message title: Where there is Darkness, He is the Light (Psalm 67)
Seventh week in Summer Psalms
Scriptures: Psalm 67
Preacher: Jeff Patterson
Date: 7/23/17

Listen or download:

The shorter clip is a meditation on how God the Father, His Son, and the Spirit through God’s people shine amidst the darkness. The darkness allows the true light to shine the brightest.

Story Catechism this week is on the Holiness of Christ (chapter 13):

We are all broken and full of sin, but Jesus has never sinned.
He has never sinned because He is holy.
To be holy means to be set apart.
To be set apart means to be like God.
To be like God means to be righteous and perfect.

Scripture readings:

John 1:9-18 (NLT)

The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

10 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him.11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. 12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

15 John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’”

16 From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.17 For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

Psalm 67 (ESV)

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.

67 May God be gracious to us and bless us
    and make his face to shine upon us, Selah
that your way may be known on earth,
    your saving power among all nations.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
    let all the peoples praise you!

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
    for you judge the peoples with equity
    and guide the nations upon earth. Selah
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
    let all the peoples praise you!

The earth has yielded its increase;
    God, our God, shall bless us.
God shall bless us;
    let all the ends of the earth fear him!
